CREATIVE AND FICTION WRITING: Student will learn the components of creative and fiction writing and develop their style and find their voice through creative writing. Cost: 75 a month/8 months. Credit: 1 English
ESSAY WRITING – Nonfiction High School Writing. Students in grades 9-12 will learn about brainstorming, organizing thoughts, using appropriate point orders, citing sources, introduction and conclusion know-how, proofreading and writing for a specific audience. Students will write persuasive and expository essays as well as learn the basics of research paper writing. Advanced Students will write a literary analysis and compare and contrast essay. In addition, students will write a biography, and essays of definition and narration. Students will write from personal interviews and outside research. Cost: $75 month/8 months. Credit: 1 English
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (Grades 10/12) The student will gain knowledge related to financial literacy, including such topics as credit card debt, saving money, interest, balancing a checkbook, understanding loans, identity theft and earning an income, etc. We will also do a 6-week virtual stock market challenge. Cost $75.00 a month
INTRODUCTION TO DRAMA — Theatre Study for Christian Education. Grades 7-12 A course that will focus on building the fundamentals of creative expression in the context of spiritual growth. Students will be introduced to movement, improvisation, voice, stagecraft, plays and theatre history. Students build their “instrument” – mind, voice and body – to develop creative skills in communication. Students will have many creative classroom performance opportunities as well as participate in producing a play each semester. Cost $75 a month/8 months. Yearly Classroom fee is $40. Credit 1 fine art
LITERATURE: Approximately fives will be studied throughout the year. Book Selection will be from a wide range of books including a selection of religious literature, British literature, and others. Students will not only read the novel, but will be asked to analyze characters, discuss content, understand the time period in the which the novels were written, and demonstrate their understanding of how time, perspective, and history impact the plot as a whole. Book selections may include C. S. Lewis, “Mere Christianity,” John Foxe, “Foxe’s Book of Martyrs,” Elizabeth Elliot, “Passion and Purity,” Frank Peretti, “This Present Darkness,” Josh Harris, “I Kissed Dating Goodbye,” Daphne du Maurier, “Rebecca,” Emily Bronte, “Wuthering Heights,” William Golding, “Lord of the Flies,” George Orwell, “1984,” Oscar Wilde, “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” and other selections appropriate to challenge the student.

REASONING ACROSS DISCIPLINES: The focus of this class will be on exploring reasoning and critical thinking while developing tools to aid in analyzing arguments and in creating solid arguments of our own. We will discuss good and bad arguments forms, formal and informal fallacies, how to analyze an argument, the scientific method as it relates to logic, and how to apply all of these things in academic studies as well as in everyday life. We will be analyzing advertisements, newspaper articles, campaign speeches, and students’ own essays and arguments to learn how to recognize poor arguments and how to improve our own. There will be homework assigned once or twice a week, usually consisting of an argument to diagram or analyze. Additionally, there will be occasional projects throughout the year. Credit: 1. United States History This class teaches the history of the United States from a biblical perspective with the United States History curriculum from BJU Press. Emphasis is placed on the forces, events, issues, and people that have shaped our nation from pre-Columbus days to the elections of 2010. The curriculum will encourage your homeschooler to think critically about the material, not just memorize a collection of facts. Credits: 1 Social Studies Credit.
