Literature
Students will study a combination of five classical and modern novels as well as Shakespeare’s Macbeth. There will also be one month of short story studies and one month of poetry studies. Students will write in response to literary device studies and complete projects relating to works studied.

Book selections will be billed to student account when ordered.
Junior High Grammar & Literature
(2022-2023)
Students will learn sequential grammar units, writing mechanics, and writing concepts. Students will learn to identify the basic components of a sentence and use that knowledge to build their own writing. Literature will be included in this class. Literature selections will be used based on students’ interests and will lay the foundation for writing assignments.

High School English Essay Writing
(2022-2023)
Students learn general writing principles that apply to essay writing. Grammar, vocabulary development, ACT prep for English & Reading are also including in this class. Student’s writing assignments will include a semester of creative writing and a semester of essay writing.

Students will review and learn high school grammar and sentence construction along with the development of high school vocabulary.

Students will use the Institute of Excellence in writing to develop their own writing style. Literature selections will be used based on students’ interests and will lay the foundation for some writing assignments.
High School English
Creative Writing Class.
Students will explore grammar, vocabulary and ACT Prep while learning principles of creative writing. Models of literary elements from great works of literature as well as a required novel (The Last Book in the Universe) will provide guidance along with the required text. Students will work on a mini-novel throughout the course of the year that will be shared with the class at the end of the year.
